Adopt a barn cat

Have a farm, homestead, stable or other property that could use a working cat? Tell us about your place, and we'll be in touch if we have a cat who's a good fit.

We place cats on farms and rural properties in Chester County, PA, and the neighboring counties: Lancaster, Berks, Montgomery and Delaware in Pennsylvania, New Castle in Delaware, and Cecil in Maryland.

Every cat comes:

  • Spayed or neutered
  • Vaccinated
  • Ear-tipped

You'll need:

  • A dry barn or outbuilding
  • Food and fresh water every day
  • A safe, enclosed spot for the first ~4 weeks
  • A vet for ongoing care

When a cat first arrives, it spends a settling-in period, usually about 4 weeks, confined in a safe enclosed space so it learns that this is home. Our settling-in guide walks you through it.

What happens next

  1. Send the application. When we start the application process, we'll always give you the chance to call our references.
  2. We'll call or email to talk it over.
  3. We may ask for a visit or a few photos of your barn.
  4. Adopters sign a simple agreement to return the cat to us, rather than rehome it, if things don't work out.
  5. Pickup, with an acclimation plan to help the cat settle in.
  6. If a placement doesn't work out, the cat comes back to us and we find it another barn. We also check in with the farm after the first few weeks.

How we work

  • We never ship cats
  • Every placement is in person, and you can meet the cat first
  • No fees, ever. We never collect money.
